About the album
This way – debut album of the Kämmerling Quartet with playful mainstream jazz
The four musicians of the Kämmerling Quartet have been playing together for a dozen of years. Now the simultaneously mature and fresh fruit of this jazz ensemble has been released: their debut album „This Way“. This Way is a joint effort by drummer Christoph Freier, bassist Fritz Roppel, Roland Kämmerling on trumpet and Bernd Kämmerling on piano.
The ten tracks on the album are based on very different material: Roland’s original compositions shine with clear melodic themes in a melancholic, cheerful guise, Bernd’s arrangements surprise with powerful bridging between jazz and classical music, two Gershwin standards touch with their own signature and the good old straight folk song is given a whole new lease of life through jazz interpretation.
In a sophisticated alternation of ensemble playing and solos of all musicians, the quartet transfers the music into the jazz idiom with its own note and audible joy of playing.
