About the album
Jaco Pastorius was known for his unique bass playing, but his musical legacy is far greater: The compositions on his solo albums as well as those he contributed to Weather Report have become indispensable in the jazz world. This musical heritage extends far beyond the boundaries of any particular genre. His tunes have a wide stylistic range, which he achieves like an eclectic by unorthodox mixing of different stylistic elements. Jaco‘s musical influence, far from being limited to bassists, can still be heard and felt today.
Time and again, jazz musicians record interpretations of Jaco‘s compositions or even dedicate songs to him. The original recordings, as well as the interpretations of his compositions by many musicians of different generations, inspired Axel Weiss to make his own arrangements without even trying to copy him on bass. This album recorded by the Band MiTabo contains the arrangements of his favorite Jaco tunes and standards associated with him. These great compositions by Jaco Pastorius cannot be remembered often enough.
